The Richmond Police Department is mourning the passing of retired police K9 Odin.

Alongside handler RPD Officer Michael Brown, the police dog served the city from March 2015 through October 2022 with dedication and unwavering loyalty, according to the RPD.

Upon his retirement, Odin and his human partner were described as “the tip of the spear in countless high-risk deployments during patrol and SWAT operations.”

The police pooch was responsible for locating many guns and dangerous individuals, the RPD stated.

Odin’s work in the field landed him in news articles a number of times, including in the Richmond Standard, where we reported about his locating a discarded firearm near a local school.

The RPD extended heartfelt condolences to Officer Brown and his family, who cared for Odin in his retirement. The department described Odin’s passing as unexpected, but did not provide further details.

“Although K9 Odin has crossed the rainbow bridge, he will always be loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten,” the RPD stated.
