Meet the Team

Mike Aldax: Editor

Mike Aldax

Mike was previously an award-winning reporter for The San Francisco Examiner, where he launched, authored, and manned the popular Law & Disorder crime section and blog. Over his 14 years as a newspaper reporter, Mike earned a reputation for his objectivity, accuracy and fairness. For eight years, he covered nearly every journalism beat in the Bay Area, including politics, transportation, business, sports and education.

Before joining The Examiner in 2008, Mike was an editor at Bay City News. He also held reporter positions at the Napa Valley Register, Garden Island Newspaper (Hawaii) and Queens Courier (New York).

Mike has earned three San Francisco Peninsula Press Club awards for excellence in journalism, including first place for feature writing, and holds degrees from Fordham University (BA Communications) and the University of San Francisco (MFA Writing).

When Mike isn’t on the clock, he assumes the role of a frustrated novelist. He also enjoys swimming, running, hiking, and playing water polo.

Zach Chouteau: Community and Lifestyle Reporter

Zach Chouteau is a longtime writer, reporter and editor with a diverse background that includes experience in the areas of travel, lifestyle and events. His background includes serving as an editorial director with Standard & Poor’s and as a senior editorial staffer with the American Booksellers Association. He also spent five years as Associate Publisher of the travel publication Best Weekends, which was the inflight magazine aboard Delta Connection airlines.

As a Richmond Standard reporter, Zach’s focus has been on discovering local businesses, settings and experiences that uniquely exemplify what the community is all about. Many of his articles are showcased in our special ‘Rich Life’ section, and shine a spotlight on everything from offbeat art galleries and new dining spots to undiscovered outdoor escapes and organizations that serve Richmond residents.

Zach resides in the East Richmond Heights neighborhood with his wife Kathy, young son Logan and pug Lulu.

Mike Kinney: Business Reporter

Mike Kinney is a native of Richmond, who has been a professional broadcaster in radio and television, in the San Francisco Bay Area for more than four decades.

Prior to joining the Richmond Standard team, Mike was a journalist for the Post News Group in Oakland. He also worked at KDIA-AM in promotions, public affairs and news in Oakland. Mike is a Native American who has written extensively on Native America for such news gathering agencies such Native News Online.

He covers breaking news, business, community at large and entertainment news in Richmond and West Contra Costa County.
