Richmond police officers recovered four illegal firearms, including three modified for fully automatic fire, during a traffic stop in the Southern District on Thursday.
The enforcement stop took place during the swing shift and resulted in a vehicle search. In addition to the weapons converted to function as machine guns, officers found one stolen firearm and several extended magazines.
The Richmond Police Department stated that modified weapons capable of automatic fire pose a risk to community members and officers due to their rapid rate of fire.
Further information regarding the case was not immediately available.
