Richmond is considering buying a vacant lot at South 27th Street and Florida Avenue to build a new park and playground for the Pullman neighborhood.

Vice Mayor Doria Robinson and Councilmember Claudia Jimenez will ask the City Council this Tuesday to authorize a feasibility study for the land purchase. If approved, city staff will have 90 days to return with recommendations and a development timeline.

The proposal aims to serve more than 2,000 children in a densely populated, low-income area that currently lacks safe recreational space. High-traffic roads and train tracks currently isolate the neighborhood from other city parks. Councilmembers stated in city documents that this project is a necessary first step toward ensuring all residents have equal access to safe and local places for community connection.
