The City of Richmond is asking for the public’s help in developing new regulations on tobacco retailers at a community meeting Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Richmond Civic Center.

The event will take place at 3 p.m. in the Bermuda/Cataline Room at 403 Civic Center Plaza in Richmond. Light refreshments will be provided.

“We are inviting community members, businesses, local partners, and Richmond families to participate in an upcoming workshop,” city officials said.

In April last year, the City Council adopted an urgency ordinance banning any new tobacco retailer within the city. A “proliferation” of tobacco shops in Richmond, including smoke shops that sell vaporizer devices and products, prompted the urgency ordinance. At the time, City Council recommended revising the permitting process to make tobacco licenses more difficult to obtain and to increase penalties for those breaking the rules.
