Fire significantly damages building on South 16th Street

Richmond firefighters extinguished a fire at a vacant apartment building early Wednesday.

Crews responded to the 400 block of South 16th Street just before 2:45 a.m. and found a two-story building with several units on fire, according to Richmond Firefighters Local 188, the union that represents city firefighters.

Engine 67 and additional fire teams brought the flames under control within 20 minutes. While the building was significantly damaged, no injuries occurred. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
