The City of Pinole was recently awarded a $700,000 state grant to decarbonize.
This city says it will use the grant to “develop innovative initiatives” in its Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP), which was adopted in August of last year. That includes creating a virtual all-electric building resource center to streamline electrification for residents and businesses, mitigating the cost of energy-efficiency upgrades, commissioning studies to address infrastructure needs and workforce development programs.
“Additionally, Pinole will lead by example with plans to electrify all municipal buildings by 2035, prioritizing facilities serving youth and senior populations,” the city said. “This funding is a significant milestone in Pinole’s journey toward a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable future.”
The grant comes from the California Energy Commission’s Local Government Building Decarbonization Challenge.
“With buildings accounting for 46 percent of community greenhouse gas emissions and 22 percent of municipal emissions, decarbonizing this sector is a top priority for the city,” officials said.
