Groundwork Richmond is excited to announce the launch of the third cohort of its workforce development program, beginning in September.

This initiative, funded by a grant from the California Department of Forestry (CalFIRE), is dedicated to aiding transitional aged youth in Richmond, providing them with the skills and certifications needed to secure green collar jobs in urban forestry, landscaping, and park maintenance.

The program targets youth aged 18- 25, offering them a unique opportunity to develop valuable skills in a growing industry. Participants are paid, earning $18 per hour for a 28 hour work week, which allows them the flexibility to pursue further education or maintain additional employment. They also provide you with the tools you need for success such as a laptop to work on, boots, gloves, and other work attire once you start working out in the field.

The certifications that each participant will receive during their rime in this program will include First aid/CPR, OSHA safety training, traffic safety ,And sexual harassment prevention.Additionally, They will complete 25 units of (ISA) International Society Aboriculture training, which can lead to arborist certification after two years of continued work in the field. In addition to that, the program offers financial literacy workshops, resume writing assistance, and environmental justice education, ensuring participants are well prepared for both professional and personal success.

Participants will gain hands-on experience through field placement, alongside Groundwork Richmond’s urban forestry crew to plant and maintain trees throughout Richmond.
