The Red Oak Victory is unveiling its “Fall 2023 Film Series” aboard the ship Thursday nights from Sept. 21 through Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m., with the theme “The Home Front: During and After World War II.” All films are shown in the ship’s on-board movie theatre.
The beloved film series kicks off with Mrs. Miniver on Sept. 21, a 1942 movie starring Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon that won six Academy Awards.
The film series debut will be followed by Man from Frisco on Oct. 19, a 1944 movie starring Michael O’Shea, Anne Shirley and Gene Lockhart and partially filmed in Richmond; The Best Years of Our Lives on Nov. 16, a 1946 production with Myrna Loy, Dana Andrews and Frederic March; and finally, Christmas in Connecticut on Dec. 14, a 1945 work featuring Barbara Stanwyck, Dennis Morgan and Sydney Greenstreet.
The Red Oak Victory, the Richmond Home Front’s last surviving WWII vessel, is located at 1337 Canal Blvd., Berth 5, in Richmond. The ship opens up one hour before film time, at 6:30 p.m.
