Hercules police arrested a 42-year-old man from Pinole on Friday, April 17, after he led officers on a dangerous car chase through Hercules and Pinole.
Hercules police released video footage from the chase, which started around 9:55 p.m. when Pinole officers tried to pull over a white Infiniti Q50 near Interstate 80. The driver sped away and entered Hercules, where local officers took over the effort to stop him.
Hercules police spotted the car several times, but the driver refused to stop and even made a U-turn to get away. At one point, officers stopped the chase because it was becoming too dangerous for the public. Using Flock Safety license plate reader cameras, they found the car again near Lupine Road. Because the driver was still acting recklessly, officers used a spike strip to flatten the car’s tires and slow him down.
The chase ended on Redwood Road when the driver ditched the car and tried to run away. He was caught after he tripped over a planter box while trying to jump over fences.
Police found that the man was already on probation for a DUI and was driving with a suspended license. After being checked at a hospital, he was taken to jail and charged with felony evading and resisting arrest.
