Richmond police investigate homicide near college

A 43-year-old man was fatally shot in Richmond on Wednesday, police said.

The homicide occurred in the 2400 block of Lancaster Drive behind Contra Costa College, according to police.

The city’s gunshot detection system alerted police to 17 rounds fired in the 2400 block of Aberdeen Way, which was quickly followed by another activation of 12 more shots around 11:24 a.m. Police responded to a series of 911 calls reporting the gunfire. 

When officers arrived at the scene, a victim was discovered with a gunshot wound on Lancaster Drive.

Medics attempted to revive the victim, but he was pronounced deceased at 11:38 am.

The victim was identified as Danny Barnes, 43, of Richmond.

No arrests or motive have been announced. The incident  remains under investigation.
