Richmond police are investigating a shooting Monday evening that claimed the life of a 50-year-old woman.
At 5:23 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Maine Avenue following an activation of the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system, police said. A woman was found in the street with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim, a Richmond resident whose identity has not yet been released, died at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details weren’t immediately available.
The incident marked the 18th homicide in Richmond in 2021.
