Reno Goldie Fiapoto, 26, of San Francisco has been charged with murder and unlawful participation in a criminal street gang in connection with the 2021 death of Richmond resident Derrick McDougal.
The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office filed the two-count criminal complaint following a multi-year joint investigation by the Richmond and San Francisco police departments, the FBI, and the Major Crimes Task Force.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, the murder charge includes enhancements for active gang membership, discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury and death, and purposefully discharging a firearm at the victim.
McDougal, 21, was reportedly shot and killed in the parking lot of a gas station in the 2200 block of Barrett Avenue in Richmond about 8:40 a.m. on March 16, 2021. Law enforcement officials arrested Fiapoto this week on Tuesday, April 14, and referred the case for prosecution the following day. Fiapoto is currently being held without bail at the Martinez Detention Facility as the legal process begins.
Fiapoto was arraigned today at 1:30 pm at the A.F. Bray Courts Building Annex in Martinez. A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for April 27, 2026, at 8:30 am in Martinez.
