Pinole Middle School was temporarily locked down Monday morning and a student was found in possession of a pellet handgun, officials said.
Just before 9 a.m., officials at the school at 1575 Mann Drive contacted police regarding a student on campus who possibly had a gun.
“While officers responded, the school administration detained the student in the administration office, placed the campus on lock down, and conducted a search which located a pellet gun in a backpack,” police said.
No one was injured, the lockdown was lifted and there is no threat to public safety at this time, police said.
The incident is being investigated by school officials and the Pinole Police Department.
“Police remain on campus, and District security staff and administrators are also on campus,” the West Contra Costa Unified School District reported early Monday afternoon.
