BART is responding to a sustained rebound in ridership by expanding train capacity across its network.
As of today, all trains on the Yellow Line from Antioch to SFO, the busiest, will run with nine cars instead of eight. BART is also lengthening some services on the Red, Blue, and Green lines. During morning and evening peak periods, each of those lines will now feature four eight-car trains. These adjustments are intended to distribute capacity more efficiently, especially where demand is highest, according to BART.
In August, BART carried 10 percent more riders than it did in the same month last year, while September delivered the system’s strongest ridership days of 2025, including a record 219,918 riders on Sept. 10.Â
