Missing Man Quartet sets a date for the Baltic Kiss
Missing Man Quartet

By Kathy Chouteau

The Missing Man Quartet, which performs “original interpretations of jazz and Great American Songbook standards,” will appear at Baltic Kiss in Point Richmond on Wed., March 22 at 8 pm.

Set your smartphones for the band’s first appearance at the dining and music venue, for which there will be a $5 cover charge.

The quartet employs an unusual instrumental format in its works and integrates “mandolin into the more standard lineup of drums, bass, and guitar,” ultimately featuring “a tonal color rarely heard in mainstream jazz,” said the band’s mandolinist Tom Bekeny.

Other musicians joining Bekeny in the Missing Man Quartet include guitarist Greg Reginato; drummer Gerry Kennett; electric bassist Craig Griffeath.

“We are a bit different as we use mandolin in a straight-ahead jazz setting,” said Bekeny, who has appeared along with Jerry Garcia during his musical career.
