In Little League, you can’t officially shout “play ball” before the season opener without having a proper parade. That’s exactly what will happen this Saturday, March 7, for Richmond Little League Baseball and Girl’s Softball.
League officials are inviting the community, including families, friends and local businesses, to line Richmond’s streets in order to cheer on the young athletes before they launch the 2020 season.
Teams will gather in the parking lot at Nevin Avenue and 24th Street at 8 a.m. Then at 9 a.m., they will begin their march southbound on 24th Street to Macdonald Avenue, then will head eastbound on Macdonald until the players reach Nicholl Park.
Opening ceremonies will then take place at the fields at Nicholl Park. Shooty Babitt, former player and current professional scout for the Oakland A’s, will lead a clinic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meanwhile, games will run from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
