Last week, Richmond police Officer Joanna Grivetti responded to assist the Richmond Fire Department at a garage fire. While on scene, firefighters discovered a kitten trapped in the smoldering remains. Upon learning the kitten had been abandoned by its owner, Officer Grivetti acted immediately.

With Contra Costa Animal Services unavailable, she stayed past her shift and personally transported the kitten, whom she named “Smokey,” to the Milo Foundation in Richmond to ensure it received care and shelter.

Smokey is reported to be doing well and will soon be available for adoption through the Milo Foundation, a local nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals in need.
