Trash collection remained delayed in parts of the county Thursday due to a labor action at a Republic Services facility, Contra Costa Health (CCH) reported Wednesday.

On Tuesday, County Supervisor John Gioia said Republic Services notified his office that collection services in parts of West County would not occur on Tuesday or Wednesday.

“We are advised that this is due to drivers not crossing a picket line which was set up to support workers who are on strike at a Republic-owned Landfill near Stockton,” Gioia said.

Per NBC Bay Area, Teamsters Local 439 launched a strike Tuesday at the Forward Landfill in Manteca, threatening disruption to tens of thousands of Stockton-area residents.

“We have been told that pick-up services will hopefully be resumed this Thursday which means your garbage pick up will be delayed by a couple of days and should be picked up on Thursday, Friday or Saturday,” Gioia stated.

Standard reporter Kathy Chouteau, who lives in East Richmond Heights, said her pickup was supposed to happen Tuesday. As of today, filled bins remained on curbsides near her home.
