The Richmond Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting in the 900 block of 9th Street, near Triangle Court Apartments in the city’s Iron Triangle neighborhood.
In a social media post, the RPD responded to reports of a man down in the area and located an unresponsive male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot injury. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“RPD Homicide detectives are currently on scene, and this is an active investigation,” police said.
The incident marked Richmond’s first homicide of the year, after the city saw 11 all of last year. While homicides are down, city data shows violent crime overall remains a problem in the city.
