A person climbed up onto a PG&E power structure in Richmond and refused requests from public safety officials to come down for several days until he was finally convinced to descend on Friday afternoon, according to the Richmond Police Department.

Police were initially called to the scene near 1st Street and W. Cutting Boulevard Tuesday morning. Responding officers located the man and tried to convince him to come down, but he refused, police said. Power was cut off to the structure, and the Richmond Fire Department responded with ladder trucks, but the man declined to come down from the pole after hours of negotiating.

Police and PG&E monitored the situation over several days. Meanwhile, attempts by mental health professionals to convince him to come down failed.

“Because the subject was over 30 feet in the air, it was unsafe for him and emergency responders to try removing him from the structure,” police said.

Finally on Friday at 1:36 p.m., the subject was convinced to come down. He was provided medical attention before he was booked on various charges related to entering the secure facility and disrupting power systems, police said.
