A family of three lost all their belongings when a large fire destroyed their home in the 3500 block of May Road in Richmond on Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to the scene just before 12:30 p.m., according to Richmond Firefighters Local 188, the union that represents city firefighters. They “had their hands full” as they worked to quickly prevent the flames from spreading to a nearby residence.

With help from additional arriving resources, fire crews contained the flames to the garage area and a portion of the main residence. No injuries were reported.

A GoFundMe was established for a mother and her two children who were displaced by the fire. The Lake family “lost all their belongings” in the blaze, according to the fundraiser, which seeks to secure essential needs like clothing, food, shelter and basic necessities.

“Your generosity and kindness mean the world to this family as they begin the long journey of rebuilding their lives,” the fundraiser states.
