Richmond was awarded a state Project Homekey grant this week of just over $14.5 million to acquire the Motel 6 near Civic Center Plaza and convert it into permanent supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness.
The city is partnering with 425 Civic Center LP and Trinity Center of Walnut Creek to realize the project, which will create 48 permanent supportive units and one manager unit at the property located at 425 24th St., according to the California Governor’s Office.
The $14.5 million is among $130.6 million in state Project Homekey funding that Gov. Gavin Newsom announced this week for nine projects across the state.
Formerly called Civic Center Motel, the property at 425 24th St. was only recently converted into the Motel 6 Richmond Civic Center.
