Richmond police towed away 69 vehicles and issued 15 citations during a parking enforcement operation targeting illegally parked vehicles in the city’s Central District on Tuesday.

It’s part of a stepped up effort to prevent illegal parking and remove abandoned vehicles.

Late last month, a parking enforcement operation in the city’s Southern District led to 70 cars being removed from the streets.

To avoid getting your car towed, the RPD encourages residents and visitors to make an appointment with the DMV to get your car registered.

“Avoid parking your vehicle illegally next to curbs, obstructing drive-ways, and on red curbs,” police said, adding, “Remember to park 15 feet from a fire hydrant. Pursuant to section 22514, no person shall stop, park, or leave standing any vehicle within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.”

Residents can report abandoned vehicles by calling (510) 620-6644.
