With help from the San Pablo Police Department SWAT Team, El Cerrito police arrested a San Pablo man charged with opening fire at a passing vehicle on Moeser Lane last summer.
The incident unfolded Aug. 4 on Moeser near San Pablo Avenue, where witnesses say the suspect fired several shots at a passing car and then ran away from the scene.
After an investigation, El Cerrito police detectives identified the suspect as 47-year-old Walter Martinez of San Pablo. Police also spoke with the victim of the shooting, who wasn’t injured. A motive for the shooting wasn’t immediately known.
Detectives presented the case to a Contra Costa County Superior Court judge, who signed an arrest warrant for Martinez and a search warrant for his home in San Pablo. That warrant was served today. Martinez was taken into custody and detectives located a firearm and other evidence linking him to the crime inside his home, police said.
Martinez was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility after being booked at the El Cerrito Police Department.
