When was the last time you had some Tijuana-style tacos at Tacos El Tucan?
If you pass by Tacos El Tucan on San Pablo Avenue around lunchtime, chances are you’ll see a line stretching out from the eatery’s ordering window.
Inside, an array of busy staffers are buzzing around the kitchen sizzling up tacos and other dishes made with fresh ingredients to quickly fulfill the orders that keep customers coming back.
This reporter’s son, Logan, a burgeoning foodie at the age of 12, is a super fan of Tacos El Tucan’s Quesabirria Combo, three cheesy tacos garnished with onions and cilantro, with consommé on the side. He holds these tacos up as among the best in the Rich, and trust me—as a sworn taco fanatic—he knows.
My husband, Zach, likes the Red Tacos and the Super Burrito for his go-to orders. During my recent visit to the eatery, a patron in line professed love for the Shrimp Taco.
Tacos El Tucan has kept its steady stream of online and in-person customers quite happy since opening at the site of the former Pup Hut in Richmond in November 2019.
The eatery has changed things up from the Pup Hut days by not only offering different food, but also by situating its seating outdoors under red umbrellas amid patio heaters.
