The West Coast Chess Alliance (WCCA) is collaborating with several community stakeholders to create “Chess Play Zones” throughout West Contra Costa County.

“These zones provide a relaxing space to learn how to play or play a casual game where the whole family is welcome,” said TC Ball aka The Black Knight of Richmond, who founded the WCCA.

This winter, you can find Chess Play Zones at the San Pablo Library on Fridays from 3:30-5 p.m.; Pogo Park in Richmond Fridays from 3 to 5 p.m.; Bear Claw Bakery in Pinole Thursdays from 6-8:30 p.m.; Hercules Library on Wednesdays from 4-5:30 p.m.; Richmond Recreation Complex Saturdays from 11-12:30 p.m. (see flyer for dates); and El Cerrito Community Center Mondays from 2:30-4 p.m. (see flyer for details).

The WCCA is also hosting events in Solano County, including Suisun City Library on Saturdays from 11-12:30 p.m. and at Fairfield Town Center Mall on the second Friday of the month from 4-8 p.m.
