Richmond firefighters extinguished a blaze in an accessory dwelling unit before it could significantly damage an adjacent two-story residential building on Tuesday.

Just after midnight, fire crews responded to the area of S. 37th Street and Carlson Boulevard for an unknown type of fire and found an ADU in-law well-involved in flames, according to Richmond Firefighters Local 188, the union that represents Richmond firefighters.

The blaze threatened an adjacent two-story multi-family residential building.

The crews extinguished the majority of the fire within five minutes. While the ADU sustained substantial fire damage, the adjacent residential building received moderate exterior heat damage, according to fire officials.

No injuries were reported. A cause of the fire wasn’t immediately available.
