La Mia Famiglia food truck recently launched in San Pablo, serving up Italian favorites at 1440 23rd St. (near Pine Ave.). It’s open daily from noon to 9 p.m.
The food truck is headed up by Marcos Torres and lives up to its Italian name meaning “my family.” He started the family business just weeks ago after serving in the food industry for many years. His wife, Gabriela Torres, was helping him the day this reporter stopped by.
So how did Torres, who is of Mexican descent, come to establish an Italian food truck? Torres moved to the Bay Area 24 years ago, making a home in both Richmond and San Pablo, eventually working his way up the restaurant ladder by washing dishes and serving in various kitchens. This work sparked his interest in cooking, and he further developed his skills by working at La Strada in San Pablo for 15 years and with Martin Gonzalez in Napa.
Early stars on La Mia Famiglia’s menu are the Fettuccine Alfredo; Fettuccine Pesto Pasta with Prawns or Chicken; the Tuscan Pizzas; Spaghetti & Meatballs; Burger; Crepes with Fruit; and Tiramisu, per Torres.
A quick taste test of the Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken this reporter purchased for my husband, Zach, on a recent visit was both a generous serving and a cut above the usual food truck fare. Zach also thoroughly enjoyed his Tiramisu for dessert.
The food truck is tucked away on a little lot and features a tented seating area for patrons who want to dine onsite. Look for the signs on 23rd St. & Pine Ave. in San Pablo pointing around the corner to the lot.
