A GoFundMe has been launched to support the 7-year-old son of a Richmond woman who was fatally shot at her workplace in Albany in an act of domestic violence on Thursday, Sept. 21.
Alonna Gallon was fatally shot as she was working inside Toyota of Berkeley Service Center at 1025 Eastshore Highway at about 11:15 a.m., police said. A man entered the service center and fatally shot her. Berkeley police responded to the scene and found the shooter on the second floor. The shooter reportedly died following an exchange of gunfire with police.
The GoFundMe was launched by Yuvonda Gallon, who identified herself in the fundraiser as the Alonna’s mother. Yuvonda said her killer was the father of her grandson King Walker. Her daughter had attempted to distance herself from King’s father “due to his reckless behaviors,” Yuvonda said.
“Alonna tried to the best of her individual abilities to create a healthy coparenting relationship with King’s father but it unfortunately didn’t stop him from brutally taking her life,” she said. “In response to this horrendous act, King’s father was also killed by the police leaving him to mourn the loss of both parents. This tragedy leaves behind a child who will need not only the support of his close family, but of the community around him.”
Yuvonda said funds raised via the GoFundMe will contribute to college expenses, therapy sessions, and extended enrichment programs for her grandson, such as football and basketball, which are his favorite sports.
“Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated,” she said.
Yuvonda described her daughter as “incredibly kind, caring, shy, and goofy” who always put her son’s needs before her own. Alonna “dreamed of a life where she’d send her son off to college and support him through his transitioning stages of life,” Yuvonda said.
