An emergency rail replacement project prompted the closure of a portion of South Gerrard Boulevard through Friday morning, according to the Richmond Police Department.

The street will be closed just north of W. Cutting Boulevard from 8 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, through 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, to allow BNSF railway to perform the emergency work, police said.

“The roadway will be closed at the railway crossing to both pedestrian and vehicle traffic, police said.

The alternate route will be Canal Boulevard to West Cutting Blvd., police said.

Avoid the area and expect delays.
