The Richmond Promise Scholar Celebration is set for Sat., June 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The organization recently announced on social media that KJ, Pied Piper of the Bay will provide entertainment and Curbside Kitchen will serve up lunch from its food truck.
However, the Cal Band reportedly canceled its scheduled performance at the event.
The celebration will also feature games, booths hosted by local colleges and universities and community resources will be available at what the organization said will be “a college quad-style atmosphere.”
Richmond Promise Executive Director Christopher Whitmore said, “Welcoming students and families back to Civic Center Plaza in 2022 was a huge success, and we are looking forward to joining with the Richmond community once again as we celebrate our newest cohort of Richmond Promise Scholars.”
Whitmore added that the Scholars Celebration is a great example of the enthusiasm that exists for building a culture of postsecondary success in Richmond. “We are excited to celebrate our students’ accomplishments while also looking forward to supporting their journey that lies ahead.”
Richmond Promise launched in 2016, and since that time, has supported over 3,000 Richmond young people’s journey “to and through” higher education. According to the organization, it currently assists more than 1,900 scholars who are pursuing associate and bachelor degrees, and career technical education certifications, at over 200 colleges and universities across the United States. It got started thanks to a $35 million, 10-year investment from Chevron Richmond.
