A Richmond Annex building formerly occupied by Jack-in-the-Box might soon be home to a popular local taqueria.

Jonathan Bermudez, owner of the popular Masa Taqueria at 199 Park Place in Point Richmond, is seeking to expand his business to include a second location at 10409 San Pablo Ave. in Richmond’s Annex neighborhood, across the street from El Cerrito Natural Grocery.

The second business is envisioned as a drive-through restaurant with outdoor dining that sells beer, wine, and distilled spirits, according to Richmond Planning Commission documents.

The proposed hours of operation at the new site are daily from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., with the sale of alcohol limited to 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Bermudez plans to hire local residents as part of restaurant staff.

As part of the move, Bermudez proposes indoor and outdoor renovations, including painting, landscaping, and a new 195-square-foot uncovered, outdoor dining patio.

The proposal is set to go before the Richmond Planning Commission on Thursday, Dec. 1 for review of conditional review permit that would allow a drive-through restaurant with outdoor dining and the sale of beer, wine, and distilled spirits.
