Below is an overview of significant service activity provided by RPD patrol officers during their scheduled shifts. Officers responded to approx. 746 calls for service during this period. 11/21/22-HIT AND RUN, POSSESSION OF STOLEN VEHICLE
Officers responded to reports of a traffic collision in the area of 23rd St and Barrett Ave. Witnesses reported the driver of one of the vehicles was fleeing the area on foot. Officers quickly arrived on the scene and checked the area, locating a suspect that matched the description of the driver. Witnesses confirmed the suspect officers stopped was indeed the driver of one of the vehicles. A records check showed the vehicle the suspect fled from was reported stolen. The suspect was arrested for hit and run and possession of a stolen vehicle. #9465
11/22/22 – MAJOR VEHICLE COLLISION
Officers responded to the area of Richmond Parkway and Lakeside Dr. for reports of a multiple-vehicle traffic collision with one of the vehicles overturned. Officers responded and located a total of five vehicles involved in the collision, with one overturned and the occupant trapped inside. Through their investigation, officers determined one of the vehicles was traveling east on Richmond Parkway when it lost control, causing it to strike another vehicle. The vehicle then crossed over the center divider and struck an additional 3 vehicles prior to rolling over. The driver of the overturned vehicle was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. Miraculously, the drivers of the other vehicles only sustained minor injuries. Richmond Parkway was shut down for several hours while the RPD Traffic Unit responded and investigated. #9467
11/23/22- ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON
Officers responded to the area of Richmond Parkway and Hensley Ave for reports of a hit-and-run/road rage incident. Officers responded and contacted the victim, who reported they were driving on Richmond Parkway when their vehicle was struck by another vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop, so the victim followed them to get their license plate number. While following the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect rammed the victim’s vehicle. When the victim continued to follow the suspect, the suspect began to shoot at the victim’s vehicle, striking it at least one time. The victim was able to provide officers with the license plate of the suspect’s vehicle.
Officers responded to the address of the registered owner of the suspect vehicle and located the vehicle there. The vehicle had fresh collision damage. The driver of the vehicle was located and detained and a firearm was recovered. Detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. #9509
11/23/22-VEHICLE COLLISION, ASSIST TO OUTSIDE AGENCY
Officers responded to a vehicle collision at 23rd St and Barrett Ave. Officers learned that CCSO was in pursuit of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle collided with another vehicle at the intersection of 23rd St and Barrett Ave, causing major damage to the victim’s vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle CCSO was pursuing fled but were quickly apprehended. The driver of the victim’s vehicle had minor injuries. #9512
11/24/22 – DUI, ASSAULT ON OFFICER
Officers responded to the area of Harbour Way and Nevin Ave. for reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a building. Officers responded and located a vehicle that crashed into a building with major damage. The driver was located and they exhibited signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Narcotics were also located in the suspect’s vehicle. The driver was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. While at the hospital, officers were conducting their DUI investigation when the suspect became agitated. The suspect began to physically fight with officers and attempted to bite both. The suspect was detained after a brief struggle. The suspect was ultimately booked into the RPD jail for driving under the influence and assaulting a police officer. #9519
11/24/22- ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON
Officers responded to the 200 block of Macdonald Ave for a ShotSpotter activation. Officers responded and located a victim at the location suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire and then seeing a subject run from the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. #9525
