On the heels of their Youth Elite Standards League (YES) and American Youth Football (AYF) Big West Championships, the Richmond Steelers’ 12 & under team—also known as the Gorilla Mob—has earned its place at the AYF National Championships in Kissimmee, Fla. the week of Dec. 5.
The only problem? The team needs the local community to step up with donations to help them travel to Florida for the big championship game. With more than 150 teams traveling to the event from throughout the country, it’s the largest youth football tournament in the world.
“The parents are trying desperately to raise money for this memorable moment for these young student athletes. In this season of giving, we are asking for big, small or in-between donations for our long journey to Florida. An experience of a lifetime and a chance to change a young athlete’s life,” said team reps in a statement.
