A man was fatally shot in Richmond early today, police said.
At about 12:52 a.m., officers responded to two ShotSpotter gunshot detection activations in the areas of S. 42nd Street and Center Avenue and nearby at S. 43rd Street and Florida Avenue. While no evidence of a shooting was found in those areas, the RPD Communications Center later received a call about a “man down” just south in the area of the Theresa Walk Path in the 4300 block of Wall Avenue (leading south to Taft Avenue).
The man, who hasn’t been identified, had apparently suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
“Investigators believe the initial ShotSpotter activations, which appear to have misaligned the incident locations by approximately two blocks, are directly related to this homicide,” police said.
Police are requesting the public’s assistance in solving the homicide. Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Aaron Mandell at [email protected] or (510) 621-1269, or call RPD’s tip line at (510) 307-T1PS (510-307-8177). Callers can remain anonymous.
