The Richmond Police Department’s latest sobriety checkpoint operation led to the issuance of 113 citations, two DUI arrests, 1 arrest warrant and 27 cars impounded, police said.
The checkpoint occurred Friday at Richmond Parkway at West Macdonald Avenue, Richmond police Capt. Al Walle said.
It was the latest in a series of sobriety checkpoints at hotspots for traffic infractions citywide.
Earlier checkpoints were conducted at Marina Bay and Barrett Avenue on Sept. 11, 23rd Street and Bissell Avenue on July 31; on Hilltop Drive on July 3; and on Richmond Parkway near West Macdonald Avenue on Feb. 28.
Traffic enforcement was the subject of a recent virtual discussion hosted last week by Richmond Crime Prevention and the RPD. The meeting was held in response to ample calls from the community expressing concern over unsafe, law-breaking drivers. The discussion featured Michelle Milam, city of Richmond crime prevention manager, and Sgt. Donovan Decious, who heads RPD’s traffic division and answered questions from the community. Tune in here:
