Got a little furball at home, of the canine or feline variety? Or maybe you have a frog or a feathered friend you share your space with that may have provided some much-needed distraction during these uncertain times. A new opportunity is coming soon where you can show your pet some extra love.

The Open Door United Methodist Church in East Richmond Heights is offering the chance for community members to honor their treasured pets at a “Drive through Blessing of the Animals.”

The special event is set for Saturday, Oct. 3, from noon to 2 p.m. at the hillside church located at 6226 Arlington Blvd. in Richmond.

“We will be giving thanks for the love and divinity brought through our pets by blessing them on this special day,” the church stated.

The church’s Blessing of the Animals falls one day before the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals in the Christian faith.

Community members are asked by the church to wear masks and observe social distancing. For more info, contact [email protected] or (510) 525-3500.
