America’s oldest National Park ranger is set to celebrate her 99th birthday by putting a spotlight on National Voter Registration Day.
Park ranger, author and Richmond living legend, Betty Reid Soskin, welcomes the community to join her for “Sign My Name to Freedom,” a free Zoom gathering Tuesday Sept. 22 from 12-1 p.m.
During the event, Soskin will read from her celebrated memoir, “Sign My Name to Freedom,” and participants will have an opportunity to win a signed copy. The event will also inform people on how to sign-up and check their voter registration status while leaders from library literacy programs will share how the non-partisan Key to Community Project has increased voter turnout.
Joining Soskin in hosting the event will be the Literacy for Every Adult Program (LEAP) in partnership with the Key to Community Project.
“Zoom with us to be in celebration of Betty and be inspired by her life’s work. In gathering together, we can increase our voting power and move toward a better future,” said event organizers on the sign-up page.
Registration for the free Zoom event is required. To sign up for Soskin’s free birthday celebration and voter registration informational event, click here.
