A man was fatally shot in the 4800 block of Hartnett Avenue in Richmond Wednesday night, police said.
At 10:33 p.m., officers responded to the shooting near the Crescent Park Apartments and found 22-year-old Jaloni Blasher suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso, Richmond police Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said.
Blasher succumbed to his injuries while in an ambulance that was taking him to be airlifted to a trauma center, Pomeroy said.
The shooting occurred as a group of people were congregating in the 4800 block of Hartnett. The suspect or suspects approached the group on foot, fired into the group randomly, then fled in a vehicle, Pomeroy said.
Blasher was shot and a 17-year-old girl suffered minor injuries in the incident. She was not struck by gunfire.
An arrest or motive in the case has not been announced. Police have interviewed multiple people and are following up on good leads, Pomeroy said.
The incident marked the 13th homicide of the year in Richmond, and the second in the city since Tuesday, when a mid-afternoon shooting in Richmond’s Belding Woods neighborhood claimed the life of Erick Galeana, 22, of San Pablo, and injured a 20-year-old Richmond resident.
No arrests have been announced in that case, and police are looking into whether it could be related to the Hartnett Avenue shooting.
Police are additionally investigating a shooting that occurred early this morning in the 2900 block of Pullman Ave. About 2:30 a.m., officers responded to the scene where 20 rounds had been fired. A man told officers he was walking through the apartment complex when he was shot at, but he managed to evade injury and the suspects fled. No arrests have been announced in that shooting, police said.
