Two shot, one fatally, in Richmond’s Belding Woods neighborhood

Two people were shot, one fatally, in Richmond’s Belding Woods neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

At 3:38 p.m., Richmond police responded to two separate ShotSpotter gunshot detection activations in the area of 17th Street and Roosevelt Avenue.

Responding officers arrived on scene and found Erick Galeana, 22, of San Pablo, in critical condition suffering from gunshot wounds, police said. Officers also located a 20-year-old Richmond resident suffering from a minor gunshot wound.

Galeana was transported to a trauma center, where he succumbed to his injuries. This marks the 12th homicide in Richmond of 2020, police said.

Numerous community members provided information about the shooting, including the suspect vehicle involved, according to police. The incident reportedly began in the Northern Policing district within Richmond and maneuvered its way to the Belding Woods neighborhood and to the area of Roosevelt Ave., where the suspect or suspects began shooting at the victims.

The victims crashed their vehicle into a parked car, at which time at least one person from the suspect vehicle fired numerous times at the victims, police said.
