A pedestrian was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in the 500 block of 23rd Street in Richmond Thursday afternoon, police said. Police are seeking the public’s help to identify the suspect.

Just before 4 p.m., officers responded to the scene on a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision and located the victim “left lying in the roadway,” police said. The victim, who hasn’t been identified, died from the injuries sustained in the collision.

Video and witness statements determined the suspect vehicle was a late 1990s to early 2000s Toyota Avalon, gold-colored with a sunroof and rear-tinted windows, police said. It is missing the rear passenger side hubcap and the vehicle “has distinct damage to the rear driver’s side passenger door.”

The vehicle should also have damage to the front passenger side headlight and windshield area, police said.
