Richmond: Driver leaves scene after striking 4-year-old child

A 4-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene Friday evening, police said.

Heitor was near his father in the 2200 block of Coalinga Avenue, near 23rd Street, at about 5 p.m. Friday when the hit-and-run collision occurred, police said. The child was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition, then pronounced dead later in the evening.

Richmond police are now seeking the public’s help in locating the driver and vehicle responsible.

“Surveillance footage shows the suspect vehicle, which appears to be a 1994-2000 model, 2 door, green Ford Explorer with aftermarket wheels,” police said. “It should have minor front end damage and appears to have a white rectangular sticker in the lower passenger side rear window. It was last seen westbound on Coalinga Ave from 23rd St.”
