Theft suspects at a Home Depot in Hercules on Monday left an infant alone in their vehicle with the engine running and parked in a disabled parking spot, often referred to as a handicap spot, according to police.

Hercules police officers were dispatched to the store for a theft in progress at 4:24 p.m. They contacted the two unnamed suspects as they exited the store en route to a Chevy Cruz that was illegally parked in a disabled parking spot, police said.

Officers recognized one of the suspects, who was known to be on felony probation for robbery. A probation search on the vehicle uncovered large quantities of marijuana packaged for sales and promethazine with no prescription label, according to police.

The pair was arrested while a family member responded to the scene to take custody of the child. A subsequent probation search of one of the subject’s homes in Hercules uncovered a larger quantity of marijuana, an unregistered Micro Draco assault weapon, and an unregistered pistol. Both subjects were booked at Martinez Detention Facility on various firearm and marijuana charges.
