Man shot in Hercules while attempting to intervene in a family fight

A 27-year-old man was shot and injured while attempting to intervene in a fight between two of his family members in Hercules Friday night, police said.

Hercules police responded to a report of a shooting in the 200 block of Brighton Street and located the man with a gunshot wound to his lower back.

Police learned that a physical altercation occurred between two family members, when the victim, who wasn’t initially involved in the fight, attempted to intervene and was shot by one of the parties involved, according to police.

The shooting led to the arrest of two men ages 39 and 31 on multiple felony charges. They were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

The victim was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and is in stable condition, police said.

A firearm was recovered at the scene, and the incident remains under investigation, police said.
