San Pablo police said they used a citywide surveillance system to find out who caused a gas leak in the area of Rumrill Boulevard and Road 20 on Thursday.
Police responded to a report of a gas leak, prompting officers to redirect traffic while PG&E responded to stop the leak. After further investigation, it was determined that someone cut the gas line, causing the link, police said.
In reviewing citywide surveillance, a swing-shift police officer immediately recognized the suspect and knew where he usually hung out. He drove to that location, found the suspect, arrested him and transported him to the Martinez Detention Facility. The suspect identity hasn’t been released.
The leak was fixed and it is safe to return to the area, police said.
