Toddler injured in Richmond shooting

A 14-month-old child was brought to Kaiser Hospital in Richmond with a gunshot graze wound to the abdomen on Thursday following a shooting on Shane Drive, police said.

The toddler was listed in stable condition.

Officers responded just after 5 p.m. to the 3000 block of Shane Drive after the RPD’s ShotSpotter gunshot detection system registered nine rounds fired in that area.

Officers arriving on the scene located evidence of a shooting but no victims, police said. A short time later, Kaiser Hospital reported to police that the toddler had arrived for treatment.

“At this time, we have no suspect information,” police said.

The RPD is asking anyone with information about this incident to call Detective A. Mandell at (510) 621-1259 or the anonymous tip line at (510) 307-TIPS (8177).

The block where the incident occurred has endured recent violence. In June, Aaron Burrell, 37, was fatally shot in the 3000 block of Shane Drive in an incident where police reported to finding over 40 rifle and pistol casings at the scene.
