A man was arrested this morning on allegations that he shouted race-based insults at an Asian woman and spat in her face in El Cerrito.
At 9:25 a.m., El Cerrito police responded to a home near the intersection of Potrero Avenue and Everett Street and met with the victim, who said she had just returned home and parked in her garage when a man she didn’t know followed her into her garage.
“The man began shouting race-based insults at the woman and then spit in her face,” police said. “The man left the garage, and the woman called the police.”
Another officer responding to the scene located a suspect nearby identified as Ricky Amos, 56, of Richmond. El Cerrito police arrested Amos and say they’ll pursue charges including battery and vandalism with a hate crime enhancement as well as charges for being out of compliance with sex offender registration requirements in connection with the incident.
