Contra Costa County has appointed Joanne Bohren as auditor-controller, effective Monday, Aug. 11. The position serves as the county’s chief accounting officer and is responsible for maintaining the fiscal integrity of the county’s financial records. Bohren succeeds Robert Campbell, who retired in March after more than 30 years of service. She will complete the remainder of the current term through Jan. 4, 2027.

A certified public accountant since 1990, Bohren has spent more than 25 years in the Auditor-Controller’s Office, advancing from an entry-level role to assistant county auditor-controller.

“Joanne will provide strong financial leadership for Contra Costa County,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Candace Andersen, District 2. “Her expertise in financial management and dedication to public service will be invaluable in maintaining the County’s fiscal health and accountability to our residents.”

As auditor-controller, Bohren will oversee countywide financial reporting, audit county departments, manage payroll and disbursements, and safeguard the integrity of the county’s financial practices.

“I’m honored to take on this role and look forward to working collaboratively with county leadership,” Bohren said. “My goal is to uphold the highest standards of fiscal responsibility while continuing to improve transparency and efficiency in our financial operations.”
