The San Pablo Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is partnering with the Rising Sun Center for Opportunity to host a “Careers & Women in the Trades Day” Thursday, March 13 from 1-4 p.m. at Maple Hall inside San Pablo City Hall.

The event, which is open to all, will have local organizations on hand to provide information and answer questions about promising careers with excellent pay and benefits in the trades. Vendors will share what’s involved in applying for a career in the trades, as well as when the open application windows will occur. Women and youth are encouraged to apply.

“Many of the trades have their applications opening up in the next few months.”

Owen Hershey, senior workforce coordinator for the San Pablo EDC, said that the time is right to apply for a career in the trades as a great number of older workers are retiring and there are a ton of opportunities.

On hand that day will be trades representing a variety of industries including: UA Local 159: Plumbers & Steamfitters; Ironworkers Local 378; IBEW LU 302; Glaziers Local 169; Operational Engineers Local 3; and UA Local 342 Plumbers & Pipefitters. Rising Sun Center for Opportunity and Tradeswomen Inc. will also be available to help propagate pathways to promising careers.

Hershey said that “Many of the trades have their applications opening up in the next few months” so it’s a great time to find out where to apply.
